Fund raising.

Post by Platyna »

I have bought a server, and some other components for it. But now we need some nice disks for it - our /home partition is 90% full, which means about 4 GB of free space).

I have spoken with Bjorn about it and decided to run some fund raising.

The total disks cost is about 440 eur (590 USD).

If you want you may send some money to:
IBAN (bank account number): 59 1090 1362 0000 0001 0936 7687
SWIFT (bank identificator): WBKPPLPP

Or you can send the money to Bjorn via Paypal and he will pass them to me.

Let me know via PM if you have any questions.

This server runs since New Year day 1997 almost completly at my expense.

Regards.

What about getting special (statless) item for donating - for example "A Heart Gold Ruby Necklace". According to mantis ticket 463 it'd be possible to make this kind of item visible in game.

Only those with 0.0.26 or higher would actually see it.

My PayPal address is bjorn@lindeijer.nl, if you want to send donations there.

I think a special item for donaters is a nice idea. It's not a problem when it only shows from 0.0.26 onwards, since most people will have upgraded to that within two weeks.

I am against giving any visually visible items to donators. I don't want TMW to become one of those games where you can pay for success, even when it is only social prestige you gain by paying money.

I agree that donators should be respected properly. But please keep the game equal for everyone. There are other ways to honor those who support tmw financially. A page listing the donators on the homepage would be a great way to do this.

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

Well, they could get a "Don" hat , similar to "Dev" hat. It shouldn't have special defence or effects, though.
You can find me lurking in the Graphics Development forum...
Haha, you thought it was a link, didn't you! :–)

I would agree with Crush. However it is not that easy to judge: sure, these items would have no stats, but still they would be elite and those who has not much money would feel envy. On the other side, if you can get a cool hat for contributing code to the project, then why not get one for donating money (if it would be statless)?

Both contributor and donator will help the project, sowhy not have the "contribute-hat" and the "donate-hat" be the same item? That way even people without a way to donate money can still get the hat, and people without any skills can also get the hat.

What type (SAS, SCSI?) and size are you looking for?
I have plenty of servers laying around with disks I took out...

Is there a post address we could send to also?
Would US$ be acceptable?

Well. To create a stable machine you can't use random leftovers. So, I appreciate the proposition, but I will not use second hand disks.

I have chosen SATA 1 TB Seagate Nearline series - since I use those in disk arrays, and they are quite nice.

Our post office (bloody, government monopoly) in Poland isn't very reliable, most of unsecured packages from abroad are stolen :). So rather no one will send money overseas by it. You can do a wire transfer or send the money via Paypal to Bjorn. US dollars are fine.

As I posted on the main website, I want to note that we've got enough money for this new hard drive now. Thanks to all donators!

Thank you to all people who have donated their money. The disks should be available in like two weeks. Bjorn will have alot of space for his GIT repository. ;)
