So, from IRC I've gathered there is still some confusion about how things happen. For me things are clear, but I cannot really see it how you see it, so in the chronical lack of a crystal ball, do notify me of these things directly. This thread is rather explicitly created for this. rotonen ( a ) themanaworld.org should also work for contacting me. Forum PMs are also an option.
eA -> I'm not responsible in any way, I've quite actively stated that I've lost hope for it.
TMW -> Everything goes into the game in CR projects which act as quality assurance and consistency coordination. I'm the person managing the grand CR level projects and dedicating people to lead the subprojects out of which the CR projects consist of.
CR1: Currently I'm pushing people into the following subprojects (with the person leading the subproject in these brackets):viewtopic.php?f=24&t=8399
Tileset and mapping subproject, as in complete visual design of CR1 and setting the art guidelines and level for all future CRs (AxlTrozz)
TODO: blocked by: tileset development, mapping development, equipment development, monster development
Soundscape design, as in music and SFX (saturn)
Playerset sprite, as in doing the playerset as it is going to be forever (Fother J? meway?)
SEMI-ACTIVE: Gameplay design of CR1, as in how the combat is going to work and what the gameplay is going to consist of (currently only one-handed melee for CR1?)
Then I have subprojects which cannot sensibly be opened yet, because we either don't have the personnel for them or other stuff is blocking it:
Cultural design of CR1, as in village, academy - blocked by tileset development
Equipment design of CR1 - blocked by gameplay desing
Equipment graphics design of CR1 - blocked by equipment design, cultural design
Monster development of CR1 - blocked by: gameplay design
Monster sprite design of CR1 - blocked by tileset development, monster development
Quest design of CR1 - blocked by mapping development (we need the backdrops in which this is going to play out in)
NPC design of CR1 - blocked by: mapping development, gameplay design, equipment design, quest design
NPC graphical design of CR1 - blocked by: cultural design
I plan to have a server at dev.themanaworld.org up at some point this year for closed testing. The unstable testing server dev.themanaworld.org will always have pretty limited access to it and can be rather botched up at times.
We will also have testing.themanaworld.org for more open testing phases of CRs before we launch them on server.themanaworld.org.
The stable in-production actual gameserver, server.themanaworld.org (manaserv, not eA), will launch after every single aspect of CR1 is done and polished into an accepted state. This will be the initial release date of TMW in my eyes.
More about this procedure at: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=8363
Also there seems to be some question of what I actually do in the project: As this should say, I'm trying to make it all hold together in a way we'd actually get a properly designed and playable game done.
So, since most issues seem to rise from people not getting information, how to solve this?
I've been thinking of demanding some wiki work (TODOs, general plans) from subproject managers.
I've been thinking of restructuring the forum a bit: separate sections for eA and TMW to make it more clear and instantly obvious.
I've especially been thinking of overhauling and doing a lot more into the documents luring you into development. This is my highest priority of personal contribution besides managering the CR1 project and trying to keep the subproject leads motivated. What is stopping me? Chronical lack of time. I should have more time for TMW in the next few weeks, but I really cannot guarantee TMW will get full allocation to all of my free time and I have to sleep too occasionally. Also TMW should not get full allocation of my free time.
Also if forum statuses make people happy, how about a CR contributor status? CR subproject manager status for each subproject? Own subsections for each subproject? I do not know how you want to work. If any subproject leaders want anything, just ask me and you shall receive.
This is a huge post, but I hope this will spark some discussion. Any response into this thread from as many people reading this as possible would be really nice. If you cannot post in this topic and still have something to say, please do PM me. At least I'd get some confirmation people are actually reading what I'm writing here and I'd have some mental confirmation and assurance that I'm actually achieving something here.
