I had the most fun ever playing this Dusk mmorpg back in year 2000, it was even more fun when the creator of the game made me a God and I got to create new parts of the game. It's a shame that my favorite online game doesn't exist anymore so I would like to revive it.
Since Dusk doesn't exist anymore I have been wanting to play a game like Dusk and TMW is the most similar game to Dusk that I have found. They are free open source licensed under GPL which means that it's totally free. I thought this might be a good place to get others interested in Dusk because people who like TMW should also like Dusk.
I have learned from a old Dusk player how to run Dusk on my ubuntu linux computer but unfortunately I can't afford to pay for a server to host it. If I had my own server I would host Dusk but I don't know anything about servers. Right now I am trying to learn from old Dusk players how to setup Dusk on a server. If somebody has a server they would like to host Dusk on that would be great and I can help them figure out how to host Dusk.
This is the only website that talkes about Dusk http://www.happypenguin.org/show?Dusk
Here is Dusk on sourceforge http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... e_id=45480
The DuskServers saved on sourceforge have bugs so if you are interested in helping me revive Dusk email me at scraggily@gmail.com I will send you a DuskServer that works perfectly and i'll give you easy to follow directions on how to run Dusk on ubuntu linux but it should be similar for all types of linux.
Peace, Zach, slobovian, xyphoid
Dusk game needs to be revived. Dusk is similar to TMW.
Re: Dusk game needs to be revived. Dusk is similar to TMW.
I couldn't really get into Stendhal. No offense Stendhal. I'm sure it's probally a good game but I just didn't find it very easy to learn how to play. I like a game thats very simple yet good.
Re: Dusk game needs to be revived. Dusk is similar to TMW.
We have the old Dusk rpg game up and running online perfectly now. All you need to play is java installed. If you can play runescape you can play Dusk because it's a java game.
I want to show the players and makers of The Mana World this Dusk game because it's a similar type of game. I like your game and because Dusk is licensed under the same free GNU license I think it would be cool to use some of your images maybe. I like the forest tiles Len drew.
Please come and check out the game, you might see some cool things that might give you new ideas for your game.

The java applet game screen comes up at this address as long as java is installed.
cya on Dusk -Zach aka Xyphoid sometimes you might see me on The Mana World as Slobovian

Re: Dusk game needs to be revived. Dusk is similar to TMW.
Your engine seems to be using 25x25 tiles while we use 32x32. This will make exchange of map tiles difficult. But because both games are licensed under the GNU General Public License you can of course use any TMW content you want.
Do you intend to keep the MUD-like interface or is it just a temporary solution until you have a better GUI system?

- former Manasource Programmer
- former TMW Pixel artist
- NOT a game master
Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.
You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
Re: Dusk game needs to be revived. Dusk is similar to TMW.
I was able to obtain a good old Duskserver that has no problems. Thanks to a old Dusk creator that still plays with Dusk as a hobby. The images that are on this Dusk right now I got from a guy who rewrote the whole java code for Dusk back in year 2006. I saw you talking about the Slothrpg game he made after quitting on Dusk.

He made a new GUI which I thought looked cool but since he rewrote the whole code none of the stuff I liked about Dusk was working.
If you look at the history of Dusk on http://www.happypenguin.org/show?Dusk you'll see he worked on Dusk.
A new GUI would be nice so we want to get people interested who know java programming that might be able to make the game a little newer looking.
I'm creating the new Dusk world, and my Dusk friend is hosting it online.
I noticed the Dusk website went down but my buddy will have it back up later tonight. There will be server down times but it will be up most of the time
I edited the map images so I am positive that Duskserver uses tiles 32x32 like your game does.
Its up and running right now
