Re: Tedium - what to do about it?
So it would appear my ideas weren't too far out :-) I like what you suggest for food. I don't know Second Life - I'm not really interested in that game (if one can call it a proper game at all). I like the concepts in TMW, the look and feel of it. I am not sure that my idea of in-game construction w...

Tedium - what to do about it?
I am now at level 60; all I do is killing things, basically - and one needs to kill a terrible lot of monsters to ascend just one level. I have done my fair share of quests - I've collected 100+ fluffy furs to get the boots and gloves etc; at the moment I am collecting 200 cobalt herbs for another o...

Re: TMW freezes KDE 3 desktop
Turning opengl off seems to have repaired it, but I had to rebuild - I didn't even get as far as seeing the log on dialog before it killed the entire desktop enough that I had to reboot. Not even logging on over the net and killing tmw, X and the other things freed up the display.

Re: TMW freezes KDE 3 desktop
The strange thing is, it wasn't a problem before I upgraded my OS; and I see the map and other players OK. One thing is odd though - for a while before I upgraded the OS, I found the monsters often turned into a "rainbow" when they got killed - just a short, horizontal bar of different col...

TMW freezes KDE 3 desktop
This is my setup: AMD64 HW, running Debian, which I have upgraded to "testing". Before the upgrade, the tmw client worked fine; now it seems to freeze my desktop. It runs for a short while, I can log on if I do it immediately, then soon after I start moving about, everything freezes. I hav...

‘MouseEvent’ is not a member of ‘gcn’?
I am experiencing problems after I upgraded my Debian (AMD64) to "testing"; if I use the client provided by Debian (version 0.0.27-1), the entire desktop very soon freezes and I have to log in from another machine and kill tmw to free it up. But when I try to build from source, I run into ...

Re: Is it possible to punish thieves?
yasha how would TMW know when something is stolen and when given? I can think of several ways: 1. Make dropped items the property of the player who killed the monster until s/he moves a certain distance away or some time has passed. 2. Implement a 'give' command, so you could give items away rather ...

Re: Is it possible to punish thieves?
feline monstrosity: You already can't drop steal because of the time limit on looting Really? I have experienced several times that a certain player has been clung to me and stolen my loot immediately; I don't know how. I did the same once - by accident, I was trying to click on a monster right next...

Re: Is it possible to punish thieves?
Namikaze: Perhaps there isn't anything we can do - but I still think it ought to be possible to let it have consequences. Perhaps not for doing it (very) occasionally, but there are some players that have made it a lifestyle, and they should be discouraged. crazy: I don't agree that it is either 'si...

Is it possible to punish thieves?
IMO drop/kill stealing shouldn't be possible at all, but since it is, there ought at least to be a way to hit back; like eg. if somebody steals from me, I can brand the character with the word "THIEF" in big red letters visible to everybody, so people would get a fair warning. Otherwise th...

Fighting aggressive monsters?
How can I fight aggressive monsters? I've found on many occasions that there are some maps where I get attacked by an unlimited number of monsters, but I can only fight one at a time, so even if I can easily kill eg. a red slime, I get killed because about 5 - 10 attack at once. It would help if I c...

Re: Beginners' tips and talk?
I don't have a problem killing pinkies - they just take some time, but I have never found a single antenna. I think I have killed as many logheads as pinkies, and they often drop raw logs, but pinkies never drop anything that I have seen. I wouldn't mind helping out with things - I am a computer wiz...

Beginners' tips and talk?
Is there anywhere for beginniners in TMW to talk and exchange tips? Or perhaps this is it? :-) I have reached lvl 30 without much trouble, but there seems to be a gap now, where the monsters I can kill give a lot less xp for my efforts; this is OK, perhaps, but there are some things that baffle me. ...
