In the long term my prefered replacement would probably be a client-integrated editor which allows players with mapper status to directly change the map and commit their changes.
That seems a little bit bleeding edge for a live server. That's like running out of CVS.

Actually, I'd like to point out that just because Java is portable doesn't mean it is ported. I still have tons of problems with Java on x86_64. I can't for the life of me get the map editor to run. This is not to mention the fact that any Java VM I can use must be a binary run through x86 emulation...

Solid starting town

I've seen lots of talk (on the wiki, irc, etc) about expanding the world to be a lot bigger, and I'm all for that. But I'd like to see the starting town to become a lot more developed. Like say a merchat that sells cactus drinks and things like that, the miner that sells the miner gear is great, but...
