Slightly, but don't worry about it. 50% of the players will likely not have touched a computer graphics program. Of the remaining 50%, 40% will likely either not know or not care about the "eliminating the grid" rule. Of the remaining 60%, 60% will likely not see it. So, in short, good wo...

As opposed to a system where the creators (the many, many creators. By the way, some creators will make one piece, some will make many, some will edit one piece, some will make some pieces and edit some pieces... how can you keep track or order?) I'm under the impression this is similar to how Batt...

Here, made a few quick videos to illustrate some of the various methods of attack. Sorry they're all rotated, but at the moment I don't have any software capable of correcting it. http://www.stolaf.edu/people/voss/ua/diagonal-slash.avi http://www.stolaf.edu/people/voss/ua/diagonal-slash-noshield.avi...

I would definately send an email to them. Sure, it may "blow our cover," but that's going to happen sooner or later, and it'd be better for us to be considering a name change now in pre-alpha, rather than down the line after 1.0 when Square notices and sends a "Cease and Desist" ...

Is there a reason that, for smaller displays, everything can't be scaled down, so that they see the same number of tiles, just at a smaller scale?

Cool cool... If people are looking for spells to make sprites for, there's the Master Spell List in the wiki you can look at: http://wiki.themanaworld.org/Magic_master_list In terms of the animation for actually casting, I've got an idea to share; I'll put up a concept of it as soon as I've got time...

?? you mean ...effect notgettinghit% I assume. Whoops...heh, yeah. One Base thing about shields: The main use of a shield is to "reroute the attack", NOT to block it. Maybe the best way to explain it, is like that: If a claw/sword/ whatever clashes onto a shield in a 90? degree, all the e...

Yeah. If anything, "miss" and "dodge" should be the same thing, whereas blocks should be a zero-damage hit that reduces shield durability (if you're carrying one). After all, if you're holding a shield and someone smacks it, you still have to absorb the impact; it just doesn't hu...

I just had a question about this...
why would a shield increase your chance to dodge? The point of having a shield is to block; it would actually seem to me that shields should decrease your chance to dodge.

Hmm...definately some stiffness problems with body positioning. First thing, we should keep in mind that not all characters who use a slashing attack will be carrying shields. The reason for generic movement types in attacking rather than weapon-specific ones is so as to be able to reuse attack anim...

No, I haven't worked on that yet, so go ahead and post it.

If noone is willing to make equipment sprites for all the character sprites that get made (doubtful, since editing the equipment sprites to fit on different character positions isn't really very difficult), I'll start making them once I'm done with charset.

To get back to the topic of screen usage on higher resolution than 800x600, I think we could scale the map and objects (at least in OpenGL) to fit any resolution, while keeping the GUI elements 1:1. So you wouldn't see more in a higher resolution, but you would have more space for the windows. That...

Well, yes, but that's rather "apples and oranges"-ish.
