Testing Servers

Post by tux9th »

Dear Players,
as you might have noticed since a few days we have two official Testing Servers. We currently use them to test the new server code against the old one. We copied over the account data and char data. This should be most comfortable for you, since you should have two identical accounts to test.
Please test whatever you can think of. Get people to do simple quests, killing mobs, test skills everything and please report everything you might consider a bug or at least odd behaviour.

The new code is supposed to be more stable and should not have, besides the Case Sensitivity, any changes.
Once again if you come across something that seems to be odd please report back. Also report back if you cannot log in with your account data. We usually don't do password resets and stuff on the Testing Server but it would be good to know how many issues the case sensitivity creates on the level of not knowing which characters to capitalize in ones account name.

Legacy Code Testing Server:
caliban.homeip.net:6901

Testing Code Testing Server:
server.sagdas.net:6902

with best regards

Please note: The beta code has been submitted. It changes a lot of what TMWA does at its core. It has not been officially accepted by the content dev team.
We flagged the demarc point in the code to let other servers running TMW code, a self-fork has occurred because of a Flag Day.
Meaning the new server code has different configurations and other skills, abilities, and functionality removed.

Many Advisers, current devs and admins are Unsure of whether the code move is either Good or Bad.
So please, if you are happy or unhappy voice your opinion. It really does matter.

So you are aware of the "State" and "Status" of the Beta. Please feel free to read back discussion on this topic.

What has been done/changed -> http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... =2&t=17670
What the road map for that code block is -> http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... =2&t=16928

Keep in mind these action items in TMWA code will enable certain development features while removing others.
Other than Case Sensitivity the major ones removed are Guild support and Disguise.
Along with any other previously unused skillid between 0-350.
Thus the ones in TMW are safe but things like leveling weapon skill or the code for a chance of item breakage and many others are gone.
This mostly affects the family of servers outside of the TMW .org such as; LOF, German and Brazilian servers.
The secret to getting all the important stuff done is doing nothing.

Also, I fixed the scissors bug (though to be perfectly honest, that one could probably be backported. I've only seen that happen once before ...)
I added some new functions that will be essential to completing the crypt, as well as making the whole "checked warp" thing a lot easier on scripters.

The fixes to Mob AI are not in yet, but they will only be based on this branch.

I'm definitely open to feature request, but please understand that for major additions, TMWA still has a long way before it will be suitable for them. (Half the reason this is taking so long is that previous TMW developers have added things without making sure the infrastructure was good enough. The other half was that we did, in fact, inherit bad code from eA).
Former programmer for the TMWA server.
