My resignation from being TMW host.

Dear All,

I was never hidding anything from the community, so I would like to tell you that I have given it some thought, and decided to resign from hosting TMW.

The reason is, that since we are no longer friends with Bjorn and I am no longer involved into the project, I have no motivation to sustain DDoS attacks and constant hax attempts. This sever runs since 1997 and users pay for the service not with money but with their gratitude and respect to the admin. Bjorn obviously stoped to pay for the service long time ago.

This is not revenge, any of you can sustain problematic situations for a friend but no one will like to have problems for some ungrateful stranger. At least I do not simply shut down everything like Ultramichy did, Bjorn is given a comfortable amount of time to move.

I gave Bjorn multiple chances to fix our relations, and to make an agreement to cooperate for the good of the project, he decided to not take advantage of them.

I am interested to still host my own TMW server, since there are quite a few people who wanted a fork, they may contact me via email platyna at platinum.linux.pl

Have fun and good luck all.

I still want to thank you for all the time that you've hosted us, as well as for all the other things you did for this project. It's a pity we couldn't resolve our conflicts in a better way. I fully understand that as things turned out, the motivation to deal with problems related to hosting us is gone. Thanks for giving us time to move, it is really appreciated.

As for how to move on. At the moment I'm discussing possibilities of moving the official server over to where our testing server runs currently, which is kindly provided by MadCamel. I'll also look into options for moving all the other services like forums, wiki, Mantis and the update server. Probably they can be hosted by MadCamel as well.

I'm also a sysadmin, and have been hosting free projects on my machines since '99 or so. I understand how it can get a bit wearing at times.

Thank you for your patience and for hosting TMW for all this time. Without you the community couldn't have grown as it has. I hope you continue to host such worthy projects in the future.

We couldn't because you have shown no will to do so. And it is quite trembling you being now artificaly sweet after all the insults I have heard from you, so spare it now. The only person responsible for this situation, and for breaking apart the project is you. That would never happen if you would admit your mistakes, apologise and fix what youd did wrong, as well as go above your family connections.

MadCamel, good that you want to host TMW. But before you do, ask your uplink provider what they think about 155 or more Mbit DDoS attacks on their routers, since usual policy is to cut down the attacked host, and if the situation persists, cancellation of service agreement.

I think the discussion can be closed now.

Regards.

You will be missed Platyna and I am saddened that things weren't able to be worked out. Wish you the best and if you do start something up you can be sure I will be one of the firsts over there

If the project is to change host I request that all of my accounts are deleted prior to any move.
I do not trust Mr Server Hacker with my data.

In the words of Platyna,
Adiós.

Your privacy concerns are understandable, but unfortunately we can not expect that every single concerned user requests the deletion of his data separately.

When you have any suggestions how the account- and character database transfer could be made in a way which a) does protect the privacy of the user and b) does not alienate users with unnecessary red tape, I would like to read your suggestions on the wiki article we created for this purpose:

Was a whole bunch of money donated for the purchase of the hosting equipment? Dunno details, dunno how much, etc. And I'm not saying Platyna hasn't earned the stuff through services :) just a consideration.

Can we just have a complete wipe and start from zero if we are moving?

Hmm, since it seems like this might go a little out of hand, please don't draw any wrong conclusions. Let's get a few things straight:

1. Nothing has been decided yet.
2. We have up to a month to migrate to another host.
3. I will take your opinions into account.

To make one thing clear, the suggestion to host with MadCamel is clearly a problem with several people, and I can understand that. I am therefore considering other options at the moment.

In any case, please keep the discussion calm. There is no need to light a fire to get your point across.

Thank you for your time, Platyna.

Has a date been set for the server to go offline?

+2 and I'm one step ahead of you by deleting Black Don. I don't do things half assed.
