New project leader for website

Post by gagolthegreat »

Jenalya wrote:Hello gagolthegreat,

help with maintaining and improving our website and visibility in other medias is very welcome. At the moment there isn't really anybody responsible for this part of the project, and therefore it got a bit neglected. Usually new contributors would ask more experienced developers for tasks to do, or work on ideas they have while getting guidance by more experienced developers, but since there currently isn't anyone for the website part, this doesn't work in your case. So, if you're going to work on this, you'll need quite some self-reliance.
It looks like I will take the lead of the website maintenance and development, if anyone have an objection, please PM me so we can sort it out and coordinate our efforts. I will get accustomed with it during the next week, meanwhile no updates from me will be published.

Looking forward to help grow our user base.

I don't think that's how it works. Perhaps you should contribute for a while, see how it goes first.

Of course Big Crunch... the point being is that nobody seems to want to take care of the website at the moment.

I intent to make it more appealing to attract new users and optimise it using SEO techniques to catch people looking for games but who dont know The Mana world exist... badly needed at the moment. ImNotPirate has also a Google Card vuth 75$ value we can use to promote the website a little bit.

At the moment I downloaded the source of the website and working on the AdWords campaign. I also contacted "i" to get a hand on the original files of the the logo.

I am very confident the community will trust me soon enough!

Maybe you can show us what you can do and your plans for the website before you actually do them?.

Regards,
That is the plan exactly. I will start threads to discuss the various issues and show mockups to discuss the new directions. I have to admit I could have worded my original post better...

Looking forward to work with you all, this is a great community.

Your original post was clear enough. I join to Jenalya to welcome such a good will. Web site needs a serious lifting with the users point of view too :)

I hope it is the 75$ thing that made you laugh... I know it will bring at most 300 visits. But that is better than nothing! For the SEO part, I did that during 2 years for an ad agency, we billed 250$/hour to do it, I offer it for free.

Just to clarify: When you talk about "Search Engine Optimization", you aren't talking about spamming blogs and forums for link building?
  • former Manasource Programmer
  • former TMW Pixel artist
  • NOT a game master

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

Well, for what do you want to optimize for?

tmw.org places first on "the mana world" (obviously) and "mana mmorpg" on Google.

Good look trying for "mmorpg" or "fantasy mmorpg".

If you have to work on the website and you don't want to add content or some kind of interface to the game server (players galleries, who is online where map, etc... - I think some work on that front was started at some point of time already) it could use an fresher look, you may only have to change Bjorns CSS file for that.

So I side with Chicka-Maria, what do you want to do/change? I don't think SEO would help TMW much.

edit: Ah, I only thought about source code SEO "optimizations". If you mean what Crush said, I think that would hurt TMW ;)

Definitely not, only getting content more in line with generic keywords, and making it easier to navigate from main page. A fresh new look and menus are also planned... more details will follow in the next days. White Hat SEO, not Black Hat.

Your optimism and enthusiasm is incredible... You could be surprised what a little work can do. Of course spamming forums are not good... Link building can be done positively without spamming everywhere. This will be done in a second phase at the same time I (and others I hope) will lobby online magazines and review sites to talk about us. Killing two birds with one stone. The changes I have in mind will require more than just a change in the CSS.
