Hi to all,
The pictures attached are quite big, to view them, completely you can right-click
on them or choose "open in new tab" if your browser support it and then
zoom and scroll at will.
In addition to the Nivalis background featured in the homepage mockup,
I prepared 3 others that shows the other towns. The backgrounds are big
enough to not repeat on screens of 1980X1200, would be centred and fixed
so it do not scroll with the content. The blur effect enable then to be reasonably
small (<100K instead of >1M) and help to focus on the content at the center
of the browser.
I tested a stronger compression on the graveyard, at 63K the blocking effect
is staring to become apparent.
If you think of other locations or designs, please us know or create it and show it here!

Re: Website Redesign Proposal: Random Backgrounds
I don't like the idea of using game maps as backgrounds.
They are too detailed and not even that pretty.

Re: Website Redesign Proposal: Random Backgrounds
This is following the discussion going in the Menu thread. Many users commented about using realistic background as creating a too high expectations and thus false publicity. Feel free to suggest your own, once the discussion is over a vote will decide on what we use. If someone only have paint and not so great graphics habilities, PM me to provide ideas I can do.
I think the blurred maps are okay as they are better than a single color background and with the content over it, it becomes an interesting space filler. See homepage thread for example. I also suggested inserting pixel characters into photographs, blending reality and game. I may create a wallpaper using this technique for my own computer, will sure share when ready.

Can't we have something like this as a background:

A good looking high definition version of the continental map looking just like your example would look great! I dhave done preliminary JPEG compress tests and it looks good, will probably weight around 150kb. Anyone knows who created it in the first place?EJlol wrote:Can't we have something like this as a background:
