I tried installling MediaWiki Extension:Math, but ended up rejecting it because it pulls in over 900 MB of TeX dependencies.

in order to further derail this topic how about instead of tex extension using this:

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MathJax

in favor over Extension:Math ? Looking less painful than mathml from here.

There was no derail, nobody cares about a math extension now, it is an out of date topic. There is already a thread about wiki improvement, thus no need to create anew one.
My quote was about the care that some developers have to some contributions (contributors?). In the original thread Moderator told to a player that critics are welcome if the player contributes to solve the problem.

That looks like it might be easier to maintain. Does anyone see any problem with using their CDN?
