I'm not sure whether it is better to discuss the database schema on this forum or in the Wiki (my guess is that far less people look at the Wiki).

I have posted my preliminary thoughts on the database schema in the Wiki.

Does anyone agree/disagree with my comments/proposed changes?

I prefer to discuss this on the wiki, as that's a more permanent and organised medium. Unfortunately though, I'm afraid that that wiki page is quite out of date.

In any case I guess we should update the wiki with the latest developments in SQL database setup, and move on from there.
