Recently Google made its collaboration technology Wave open source and made it possible to set up your own wave server. Maybe we could use this for development communication. What do you think about this?

I use google wave on daily basis. And I must admit that I do like it.

So it's like an IM chat client on crack? A real time chat environment with external shareable API's and tools?
LOL Sorry first thought that came to mind. Wow. Maybe a slight explanation for those like me who didn't know what it is can know what this is about.
a Database with prescient storage and gadget robot and data API's. Article doesn't tell me much. I'll look into it.

Centralized collaboration, this would increase productivity tenfold...

We've used it a lot in the past to plan events and content additions.

I did use it but havent heard if it's turned open source.
On IRC dev channel one cant see offline messages. Wave has benefit over it.

Yes! I like Google Wave.

I really don't see why google discontinuing it. Its quite good IMO.

I don't think that google will abandon wave completely. They recently add wave service to google apps, and everyone can use it with own domain for free. As some of you might already noticed it's perfect for graphics development.
1. You may upload any kind of attachment
2. Pictures in wave may be browsed via gallery feature
3. Non linear (nested) conversation may help to get rid of mess.

The only thing I don't like about it is catching up when your not up to date. :p but that's not waves fault I'm just lazy.
