Content and general development discussion, including quest scripts and server code. TMW Classic is a project comprising the Legacy tmwAthena server & the designated improved engine server based on evolHercules.

Please contact me before posting any data. Any information will be
not usable If you have not done this. You will gain level 80 gm commands. You must create 2 chars. 1 char will be for fun because logging data can be boring. The 2nd char will be used strictly for logging data. Only use gm commands on your logging char to reset it to level 1 or until you have been directed to do otherwise or of course the data is not usable.

OK so I have a few questions that I need answered under certain circumstance's and conditions. I will first put in the conditions and than I will put what level chars you will use between what levels. Be sure to read instructions carefully and don't skip ahead! I will be very specific on what I need you to do. Some tasks require that you don't talk to any npc's (besides Ian who will force you to talk to him) or to unequipped the already equipped knife. Ok lets Begin.

Completely nude tasks from level 1-12
Conditions
When you begin I want you to @chardropall your_name_here and not pickup the items dropped. Any time after they disappear take note of what Time it is. Time is important. Than begin leveling your char. If you log off make sure you log the time you logged off. And when you log back in to continue leveling to 12 in this case take note of the Time again. You may pickup items but not sell them to NPC's. Don't use any food items to heal or NPC's. Don't use any gained stat points. Absolutely no gm commands unless you messed up your data and start from scratch from step one. If you have questions about how to do this pm me or ask me in game.

Now please answer these following
Questions
1.) What were your stats to begin with from char setup?
2.) How long did it take you to hit level 12?
3.) How many of what items have you picked up?
4.) How many stat points have you received total?
That's It for now after this is complete I will make a list of new tasks questions and conditions.

After you receive the first update I will need this data again.

Regarding items that are picked up are we allowed to equip them if possible? I am guessing not but want to be clear.

Also is monster points quest and any other quests to be avoided?

Ok so this is what I'm gathering. We level up 12 times within 1 hour.
Normally this would not be a problem but It's boring. Magic and archery
are not apparent right away, when you start, grinding "tanks"or warriors
are most apparent. If your are new to the game you will probably only
make around 932g In that hour.There are 8 random items that unclear what
to do with besides sell it as a new player.In order to fix this I propose
making monster drops map sepcific.People in the past just reused the
monster recolord them and named the something else. I think this would be
acceptable and make questing in one area simpler. Currently we have to
run all over hell and there is no apprent story line or point to the game
besides grinding. Some of this information is based on grinding alone without
questing. Npc's should be more nuby friendly and direct new players in the
direction and give description of the pathway to where there going. Most of
these changes will be my goal in order to rebalance the server.If there are
any ideas to help and create these goals stronger and more useful please
comment and be heard but don't argue against the idea completely Its just
not productive and offtopic.

Hi,

Some ideas,
  • Hurnscald is where all the people is, Tulimshar where the newbies begin. Not good at all, newbies need help. Not easy to address in one day, my guess would be working towards distributed initial content between the two cities.
  • Feed ingame's help from the wiki, that would encourage the update of the wiki's content, and kill two birds in one shot (maybe XLS? idk i'm very new to development). I know this could become an spoiler, but there are ways to work arround, e.g.: Make an excerpt of the articles, if the user desires more information, "show more" button will open the full article content.
  • Newbies could get full set of weapons and ammo (arrows), marked as newbie stuff, once the char reaches 12, the stuff dissapears, if you drop it, dissapears, .. etc, that would encourage the use of archery (about magic, well magic is another story, right?), we'd need a cheaper bow for a level 12 who only has 1kgp.
  • I know this would be difficult to address, maintain and implement, but if you normalize quests data, and add localization of the places to go, you could do some sort of.. compass that leads the players to their next point. The compass would be pointing towards the direction a "bot player" would take if using the navigation script. Quest data normalization would add the posibility to work towards more new tools for the players apart of this compass, like a quest manager

this seems to answer the wrong overall question, this can add some variety but will still result in the same problem.

This seems the crux of the issue, how do we engage the player so they feel a reason behind their actions or even better a sense of anticipation.
Some of this information is based on grinding alone without questing. Npc's should be more nuby friendly and direct new players in the direction and give description of the pathway to where there going.
What Ian does, interacting with a player encourages the player to interact with him. If this can be triggered on proximity then the npc's can be made to prompt the players. Another way is when npc's participate in local chat, if "Get your weapons here!" along with other messages could be called out by Neko every 5 - 10 minutes along with others in the Market areas it would give a feeling of a market and in general indicate to the players that the npc's are ready to engage with them. If NPC's could whisper a message on proximity "Psst. Got any Scorpion Stingers."(this would also encourage use of the chat system) In theory if a player wanted they should be able to ignore an npc's chatter. These kind of changes would be able to be used to drive story lines and as a result player engagement with the environment.

A variety of rpg's use the in game chat system as part of quests, needing to send a specific message to some npc when at a particular location for instance

Oh and a quest log/journal would help too.

"Not using a shield, eh. Well if you come to your senses, talk to Jack about making one for you."
