Javascript is too slow. Even with the optimized engines today the browsers use they are still much slower than programs written in C++ or Java. Also you couldn't interact with the server while its running and I sure hope you don't suggest to run the server in a browser on the webserver, I guess you can use the modern js engines without one.

I too would like to see a HTML5 client... It would allow people to try and play the game without having to download binary files, and removes issues with people using out dated clients. I suspect it would make the game much more popular because people feel more secure running a website then a binary. Also it would remove the need to maintain packages from different operating systems.

Maybe once you've finished plasmaserv, then. ;)

Don't count me in for such development. Topic closed for me.

I have to admit that the idea of making an online game in HTML5 intrigues me, but unfortunately my day only has 24 hours and I already have much less time and energy for Mana than I would like to.

Bertram wrote:Hi Olof,

I have a simple question:

What reason made you think about javascript for The Mana World? What motivated you in proposing your suggestion?

Best regards.
Because I want to code a javascript based 2D RPG.
And instead of just starting on my own I am researching other similar projects, trying to find or motivate other people. :)

So to be honest the important thing to me is to code an HTML5 game and I'd like to do it with other people because that's fun :)
It does not necessarily need to be a Mana fork. I am checking with the "Open Liero X" team as well (that's not an RPG but they are nice and I've coded with them before).

So anyone feel like team-coding some?
