Are footwear going to overlapse (be showed after) pants or the other way around? It could be good to know when designing
that's a good question. i would suggest drawing shoes behind lower body clothes because otherwise long robes or skirts that reach to the ground would be impossible. on the other hand the maximum length of pants and boots has to be consistent to avoid tight pants overlapping large boots.

I agree with Crush.
Although whatever we choose you will always have combinations that bring complications.

I did this pair of boots for a single frame and I think that's the right height for a pair of boots. So tight pants and leg armor should start above that...
Then again maybe it would be better to have a value for the pants whether they're tight or not... I think it would be better to have this be define by the pants rather then by the boots.
How about you join the IRC channel to discuss this matter?

And why IRC about this instead of continuing the conversation here?
For the left and right hands, the draw order also differs depending on whether the character is facing left or right.
I would suggest we draw stuff top to bottom: shoes, pants (or skirts), shirts, robes, hats. Apparently we want tight pants (let's say underpants) and maybe also tight shirts that don't overlap with a pants/skirt. I propose we simply draw those before all the rest, making for:
{backhands}, [underpants, tight shirts,] shoes, pants, shirts, robes, hats, {forehands}
If I'm making a mistake somewhere or forgetting something, please comment. When facing south, both hands are forehands. Similarly both hands are backhands when facing north.
