[DIS] Halloween event

Post by Reid »

Should we do an halloween event? Last year we made one in one day of full development, shouldn't be hard to do something like this this year, but is it worth it?
Is it better to focus on the next release development or should we do a little break with this event?

Will there be players? :)

I'm really not sure about this. It could be good to remind people that Evol exists, but at the same time maybe this isn't the best moment to do that, as the game is still not ready to actually be played. Maybe the best thing is to wait. The next time we bring attention to Evol it'll be when people can stay and play indefinitely, they've seen enough demos over the last couple of years.

You can do an event which requires no scripting.

Code: Select all

Example: spawn a thousand Pious, disguize a GM/victim as one and let the players find it.

Useless event that brings attention to Evol only to let down everyone. It's better to do nothing.

What the heck are you talking about? Events are there to have fun, and I for one would have fun with it. So it's far from useless. It's even less boring than the regular "bring me this item" and repeat it over and over without constantly repeating the exact same patern. There are plenty of theme fitting games to think of that require no scripting whatsoever, bonus: you have an interaction with the players.

For this year we won't do anything, we removed the pumpkins monsters from our db and thus spawning pious for an halloween event is a bit off-topic.

Let's focus on the next release.

We did the halloween event while we were working on the beta2 release. But we didn't use the beta2 work to do it, we worked on top of the beta1 (the version which was available online) and we added our monsters and items.

Items wasn't much a problem as we didn't start to add those on the beta2's db, but we already added the beta2's monsters in their db and merging would give us problems.
And the stats were rushed, as we did this event in one day. :P

Well, Halloween is gone now. Next year we will have something big, for now it's better to give players a good release soon (tm). :P
