When I try to log in and then create a character it says "unkown error occured"
does anyone know why this is? I am using winXP.

What version are you using? Try to get the latest CVS snapshot. Maybe it's because you're using a player name with only 3 characters or strange characters? Or maybe it's a bug in the hair customization if you're using it, try different styles and colors.
