What is the highest priority thing I should work on? Lately i've just contributed random stuff. Should I go back to NPC dev or get started on monsters, weapons, or clothes?

You should just learn more. Do more tutorials. Ask for help here or on IRC or via email from your fellow pixellators.

I think monsters and equipment sprites are what we need most at the moment.
