Welcome to the Home of Development!

The Mana World has multiple projects under development and most of these projects have their own development forum. However, some assets may be developed which are for the benefit of more than one or no single specific project. This forum houses any such assets.

You can also post on this forum if you are unsure which other development forum your post belongs to. Forum staff will help you by moving your post to the most appropriate section.

hi, at the beginning of this thread it was about live preview in gimp, and i'm not sure if that solved in the meanwhile, anyways, here is 1 way to do it:
(i hope the menue order is the same as in english version)
livepreview.jpg
livepreview.jpg (72.02 KiB) Viewed 8441 times
When you paint into the zoomed window, you get the updated view of it at 100% in the lower window.

Nope. It's a bit different "live preview". We need to tile it on the fly to test repeating patterns.

Hi,

Could this be a start?
replicator-gimp26.zip
(1.94 KiB) Downloaded 221 times
This adds the Image->Replicator menu which creates a new window tiling the current one.
Try the options.

If so, I may be able to have a talk with some GMP expert and try to upgrade it.

Best regards.

To have that realtime is exactly what would be needed.

Hi Rotonen,

Ok, I'll have (mid-priority) look upon having a script reacting on painting events,
while keeping the nice options of it.

My script-fu skills are five years old, so don't be too impatient. I hope that the current script
can help making people wait.

Best regards.

I thought about "live canvas background". Instead making a new script we could modify gray window background. So no new window would be needed. I messed with gimp sources a couple months ago, but without luck. IMO it's too complex for someone without basic understanding gimps source code (like me).

And what if the script would create and update a bottom-most layer with copies of the given image?
IMHO, it would be better since gimp source code would have to be changed while achieving the same effect and preserving the current behaviour with tiles having a transparent part.

What do you think about it?

Best regards.

Recently I've been using PyxelEdit for my pixel art stuff. It has a very nice workflow for tilesets and spritesheet animations. Current tools are very basic though and some "essential" things like shape tools (line, rectangle, etc) are missing. It also costs $9 and it's Windows-only (although it apparently runs nicely in Wine).

In case this can help anyone, Krita has exactly this functionality. Press the 'W' key to enable what it calls "wrap-around" mode. Here is a youtube video showing it in action.
