In some games, it is possible to talk to the people playing it by joining the game (game chat rather) from IRC. This would be an intresting feature to see implemented, frankly.
I'm not sure how this would be implemented from a coding perspective however, either use a seprate irc server or add one into vbGore?
I think this is a vb6 IRC server. As stupid as it sounds I haven't checked it (someone said it was, but I don't have vb6 installed), I found it in a SourceForce dictionary so it's probably safe, you might want to check it though for anything malicious.

There isn't a global chat in the game, though.

The new server features chat channels which can be joined from the whole world. The system feels quite similar to IRC, just with a lot less features. I could imagine to use the scripting system and an IRC bot to create a bridge between a channel on an IRC server and an ingame chat channel.
