Welcome to the Home of Development!

The Mana World has multiple projects under development and most of these projects have their own development forum. However, some assets may be developed which are for the benefit of more than one or no single specific project. This forum houses any such assets.

You can also post on this forum if you are unsure which other development forum your post belongs to. Forum staff will help you by moving your post to the most appropriate section.

Pauan was working on pixellating this and the results were quite promising. Anyone seen the spritework in a while?

Also someone track down Sommerlost. He was one of the most skilled pixel people to display interest towards our project. I've been unsuccesful so far. Too bad the links to his work have expired.

Can someone take responsibility of getting all of this into our art repository on Gitorious and also organizing the structure of the repository into something sensible and usable?

It would also not hurt if our conceptual work would find its way there.

Proposal:

/concept/
/concept/artist_name/
/concept/artist_name/project/
/concept/finished_projects/
/concept/finished_projects/project/

/pixel/
/pixel/artist_name/
/pixel/artist_name/project/
/pixel/finished_projects/
/pixel/finished_projects/project/

/sfx/
/sfx/artist_name/
/sfx/artist_name/project/
/sfx/finished_projects/
/sfx/finished_project/project/

/music/
/music/artist_name/
/music/artist_name/project/
/music/finished_projects/
/music/finished_projects/project/

Yes, it is a bit redundant and produces slight overhead. We could also have /art_type/project/artist/, but:
1) In my proposed way, we would end up with cleaned up finished and approved projects.
2) It's far easier to track who did what.
3) It has a clean and simple place for random inspired pieces from outside of projects in /art_type/artist_name/random/.
4) Nothing is preventing us from having a /random/ (or if someone wants it to ironically enough to be /b/, I'm fine with that too) under /finished_projects/ too.
5) Git should allow us to intelligently move/copy/merge/mangle/whatever stuff around upon need and approval.

Should we have a dedicated person upkeeping the archive?

At least in this system all of our art contributors should be encouraged to have access to our repository.

I'm splitting the repository related discussion into a separate thread and leaving this post also here.

Here's a link to the .xcf for the Desert Armor:

Linky

I should explain the different layers.

Grid: simple grid separating the tiles.
New Layer copy: used for perspective and light source. Can be modded onto the pixels for a more realistic look, or left off.
Helmet: the helmet, obviously.
Frame 7 (80ms) (replace): appears to change only the skull in one frame. Not much use.
Chest: the chest part of the armor set.
Wrists: the gauntlet part of the set.
Gloves: gloves. Can be separate from the gauntlets or bundled together.
Legs: the pants, obviously.
Boots: boots, duh.
Background: the (male) player sprite.
New Layer#1: gray background.
Everything under New Layer#1: doesn't look important.

That should cover it. You can PM me if you wish for any other files or information...

P.S. The link I gave above might not work forever, so I would suggest hosting it (or a derivative) on a more official TMW server.

Hi Pauan,

Please would you repost it? I'm updating the tmwart repository.

Cheers,

Do share. It should give people interesting insight into your newschool methods of working.

You could also try to write an article / tutorial about your approach to pixel art.
