Levelling curve

Post by Rotonen »

How long does it take for players to efficiently level? I'm interested in the progression of the curve, so please post your estimates for:

1-10
11-20
21-30
31-40
41-50
51-60
61-70
71-80
81-90
91-100

As a lot of you will probably not agree on this, this will probably turn into a nice discussion.

This should also help us balance gameplay on the long run.

I wouldn't call it a 'curve'. I think it's more like a stock market chart over time -- without valleys. Anyway, it's always increasing.

I try to train my character for the next big thing. I never know what will be released in the future, whether it is a new monster, map, or item. The future could also be a reduction in content or rewards, such as the recent non-party-player experience points gain.

When I began playing TMW, if your character had a poor distribution of status points, you had to begin a new character if you weren't satisfied. Once you realized your character wasn't going to grow with the current content, you lost that time in levelling your character. But that's somewhat meaningless if you were satisfied by using TMW primarily as a chat room.

Now that there is a status point resetting NPC, and the price for a point reset is currently affordable, a player can keep the same character and redistribute the status points without losing the time it took to gain those levels.

Over time a player can alternate between a chatter, casual gamer, or a power leveller just as easily as being a melee or ranged character.

Wow. I'm not sure how to nail down my thoughts at the moment. I once considered making a diary for my character, but I never imagined I'd be playing this game for over one year.

edit: recalculated, was wrong before
Rough estimation, purely grinding, not doing quests and exploring:
1-10: between 5m to 10m
11-20: 15m-30m
21-30: 30m-1h
31-40: 1h-5h
41-50: 5h-10h
51-60: 10h-15h
61-70: 15h-30h
71-80: 50h-100h
81-90: ???? (haven't reached that far)
91-100: ????

This can depend on lots of things, like it was said: melee or ranged, group or single, knowing quests or not knowing them, being lucky on unlucky. But average XP:time would be:

1-10: 5-10 min
11-20: 15-45 min
21-30: 1-3h
31-40: 2-6h
41-50: 6-12h
51-60: 12-24h
61-70: 1-2 days
71-80: 2-4 days
81-90: 5-10 days
91-100: long time

Where first number is: in group. 2nd or 3rd character (so you know how to get things and do quests), with quite big luck, putting all points in good stats and having little or no fun at all. Just fighting in party with best equipment. Maximum time is if you are having more fun, sometimes doing unnecessary things and getting equipment slowly. Of course, you cold progress much slower if you aren't just leveling up, if you are getting item collection, and doing fun, exploring world and making friend.
Uses Ubuntu 8.10 and The mana world 0.0.27.

I'm expecting this thread to be a long term one and to reflect the changes over time.

Posting the old data is fine too.

Also, what do you kill for each of the 10 level categories?

So we basically only have content until level 70 or so?

Could you tell me how your stats are distributed, because 8h to go from 70 to 71 seems incredibly long 0.o

Again rough estimation, a lot depends on how you redestribute your stats, and how fast you get equipment from quests. The suggested monsters/stat is also keeping in mind that fighting "should" be somewhat challenging =)
1 -10: maggots; scorpions; fire goblins
11-20: fire goblins; fluffies; pinkies; bats
21-30: bats, spiked muschrooms, pinkies, logheads
31-40: green slimes, rudolph slime
41-50: green slimes, red scorpions, giant maggots, rudolph slime, yellow slime
51-60: yellow slime, red slime, scorpions, evil muschroom, flowers
61-70: yellow slime, red slime, scorpions, evil muschroom, flowers, snakes, spiders, mountainsnakes
71-80: snakes, mountainsnakes, grasssnakes, jacko, skulls
81-90: snakes, mountainsnakes, grasssnakes, jacko, skulls
91-100: snakes, mountainsnakes, grasssnakes, jacko, skulls

Currently lev 72
str 60
agi 30
vit 57
int 5
dex 57
luck 30

seems to work well as a balanced melee fighter

That's not really a balanced warrior, your str is way to high. Try giving some of your str points agiity, that'd make you faster.
