Thats one scary tarantula monster.

It looks too overhead for perspective. He looks more like a spider than the current one though!

Also, I think it is cool how a tarantula rears up for defense, and it would make a cool attack animation. I posted a picture below by some artist, because I know some people don't like to look at the actual spiders ;)

The most annoying thing about the old spider is IMO the wrong perspective. Please fix that. Also IMO the blood should be removed (according to the not-yet accepted guidelines :P )

Creating a better looking spider based on the old one will be problematic.

I agree that the shape looks deadlier. But the 'overhead' angle should be tidied up.

I'm not convinced by the animation and the perspective is off.

To make your work easier on this, how about you make a spider about 3x2 tiles in size? Start with the outlines and full animation before even trying to go into detail.
