Windows vs Linux User Interface

I play the game on my Windows desktop and on my Linux laptop. I've noticed there are some drastic differences between the latest version of each that makes the Windows version superior (unfoftunately).

A couple of these discrepancies are as follows:

The Windows version has a button you can click at the top to open the smilies menu and choose one.

It also has an F12 function key that opens the list too.

It also offers the option of showing activity in the chat window by using the /me command. So, normally when someone (say, Jack) types in the chat box "I'm jumping up and down", on the screen and in the speech bubble will appear "Jack: I'm jumping up and down". Instead, if he types "/me jumps up and down", it will say "Jack jumps up and down" to show real action rather than speech.

I don't always remember the ALT key commands for which smiley is which, and the action command in chat doesn't even work at all in the Linux interface.

Can those features be added to the Linux version (I'm running Ubuntu).

Hi,

your Ubuntu tmw client is less recent than your Win32 client. You might want to upgrade the former. As far as I know, there are no functional differences between the two (except for some slight differences `under the hood'.)

How do I updated the Ubuntu version then. It seems to be the latest one in the repository and I thought it was the same version number as the one you can download from the website.

If you check the upper left corner, they're different versions.

You need to build it your self. There are instructions on the wiki http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/ ... ompilation.

Or you wait for Ubuntu 9.10 to come out sometime next month.

In Ubuntu, all of your software upgrades only when your operating system upgrades too.

Most people don't get the distinction between an update and an upgrade: in an update there are bug and security fixes while in an upgrade the functionality of the software in question can change.

You might want to try playdeb.net, see http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4789

However, the site seems unreachable at the time of this posting.

Ubuntu aka. Debian aka. Outdated Software. ;-)

Use Fedora - you will not need to wait for next release to get updates. ;-)

Regards.

Hi,

I personally use a mix between Debian unstable and experimental.

Plus the fact, that I've got the latest piece of whatever I want,
what Debian calls experimental has been proven to be called stable under Fedora.

Care To have a struggle about it Platyna? ;)

Best regards.

Hum .. the daily checking of Ubuntu backports only realize updates, totally right.
But program upgrades can be manually searched for and installed through the applications menu ... or did I missed something ?

Fedora & Slackware rules. Why? Because I say so.
But seriously: Fedora & Slackware rules. Why? Because Slackware hosts this game and Fedora is on the laptop of admin of the stuff that hosts this game.
