According to the logfile, my gamepad was found with the proper axis and buttons, however how is the game configured to use these buttons. The gamepad also appears to work in the game although there is a lack of button support

Well gamepad support is just at a beginning state, the buttons are not configurable at the moment, and tolerance is not properly set. I hope to introduce gamepad setup in the next release.
