After I log in it updates, but freezes for a bit, and says "Connection Timed Out"

Players are online, so is this just a Linux problem.
I am using Ubuntu 10.10.

It has nothing to do with Linux, just the connection. Does it always happen?

Yeah, every time I have tried.

Trying again now.....
Still, as I log in it shows Updating..... news.txt(o%) then freezes, and so on.

That's the 9th time I have tried tonight.

Yeah, I can see every file there.

Edit:Tried again today, and it still does it.

Edit 2:I removed, and installed fresh, same thing happens.

Edit 3: Been trying a lot today, the same thing keeps happening.

Client version?

You can download the updates manually.

I'm using the one from the software center.

Just to check, what does the client say in the upper-left corner when you start it?

V 0.0.29.1 (eAthena)

Copy the resources2.txt file and every zip file it names into this folder: /home/(username)/.tmw/updates/updates.themanaworld.org/
Then you will be able to play despite the timeout.

Same problem here . Done some investigation using sniffer and other suitable tools. I can connect to game server ports without a problem , but I absolutely can't access port 80 while it happens to be on the same IP. Strange! For me, it looks like some custom firewall rule has blocked my access to port 80 on your server. Ouch!

So I can play game but unable to update it by usual means.

This message could be send because it goes through different IP. Sure, I can just replace IP and try again, but it would be better if you'll figure out what's going. For example, if server implements some auto-ban for some actions (say, too frequent requests), I would be really interested to know what's wrong on my side and what to do to avoid toggling this countermeasure, etc.

It sounds like you are affected by the same connection problem a lot of other people (including me) are experiencing. Please contribute to this thread so Platyna can find a solution:
