Possible bug with towel quest

I just finished the towel quest, and did not receive the undyed towel, however the NPC gives me the option to dye the towel but then complains that I do not have one in inventory. Now I am without the most important item a hitchhiker can have, and cannot redo the quest I am running Mana Plus on Mac. Has anyone else experienced this error?

Undyed Towels are now given for free by any Soul Menhir.
