I just discovered I can't fight with my Bone Knife or Ice Gladius if I have a dagger in inventory. I can equip de knife normally, but as soon as I attack the dagger re-equip itself. So each time a Red Slime drops one in the mine, I have to go back to Hurnscald and sold it.
(On Fedora Linux)

You selected mode to use weapon based on distance. For short kinifes for long bow.

You can disable it by pressing G key.
For this need enable yellow bar if it hidden, right click on other visible bars and select "show status bar".
Then new bar is gray, press 8 on numpad and it will be yellow.
After you can pressing G key.
