Hello, this my first post and it is a bug report, not a good start,eh? ;)
In the desert, in the left side of it, little bit up from the garden, in the canyon. If I walk inside that canyon my client closes abruplty with a error message: "Error: Could not find map file!". If I try to log on my client closes instantly with same error message. I also reproduced this with my test character named Grul (how original).
I have compiled the newest CVS-version and I also tried from the newest source available from this webpage, with no luck. I am using linux.
Is my charater Lurg lost in the digital storm or can it be returned? :) Could there be somekind of a feature that when you log in, you could select whether you start game where you last log out or from your hometown?
Anyway, this is a great game. It is just too bad that I cannot play it with my character. :)
edit: typos & bad grammar
Error: Could not find map file & can no longer play.

Don't worry it's a nice start since you help us improve TMW.
I suppose you mean right side, not left. If I'm right the problem is exactly what the error message is telling you: you miss a map!
Now that's because in the new release we added a new map and I see the makefile was not updated to install it. I think I fixed it, so just check the latest CVS until you get the change to makefile and reinstall TMW, eveyrthing should work fine again I hope, if not contact me, so I will manually edit your player infos, but please avoid it since is a very time consuming procedure

That is so good. So I don't have to fear for lighting bolts from sky to strike me dead. ;)Elven Programmer wrote:Don't worry it's a nice start since you help us improve TMW.
Yes, I meant right side of course. I blame this hot weather for the lag in my brains. ;)Elven Programmer wrote: I suppose you mean right side, not left. If I'm right the problem is exactly what the error message is telling you: you miss a map!
I'm not very familiar with CVS but I did update it and try to compile it, but alas there was no success. However I found these new_6_1.tmx.gz and new_7_1.tmx.gz from maps-directory and manually moved them to /usr/local/share/tmw/data/maps-directory and woah, now it works. :) So, while I am not a specialist I think the problem is that make install didn't move the files?Elven Programmer wrote: Now that's because in the new release we added a new map and I see the makefile was not updated to install it. But anyway, now I can continue playing. Thanks for help. ^^

i like the idea about selecting a starting point at login. might come in handy once the world gets bigger - you then select which town to start in, instead of having to travel around endlessly.
about the installer problem: that's the problem with cvs - not *everything* is up2date and working all the time that's what official builds are for. but as long as you finally got it working...
