Help --Character Stuck or walked off the map?

My character Chiara has wandered to an area without monsters or players. She is stuck on a map that seems to have no exit.
When she approaches the edges of the map many graphical glitches appear, and my system becomes overloaded.
There is a NPC named Weellos, and a bakery.

What client version are you using?

Client version 0.0.24.1 I have Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and did not want to upgrade my OS until the next long term support version is out. I uninstalled the old client and have followed these directions on the wiki http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/ ... nd_9.04.29

I am not experienced with building from source, and am a new Linux user as well. Here is where I get stuck as I follow the instructions:

chiara@chiara-desktop:~$  cd ~ && mkdir .programs && mkdir .programs/tmw && mkdir .programs/tmw/.src
mkdir: cannot create directory `.programs': File exists

I get the same message for .programs/tmw . I was able to create .programs/tmw/.src , so then continued as if all were OK. The make install finished with no errors.

I created the shell script to execute tmw ( export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$HOME/.programs/tmw/lib && $HOME/.programs/tmw/bin/tmw )
but I get this error:

./tmw.sh: line 7: /home/chiara/.programs/tmw/bin/tmw: No such file or directory

I am sorry for my ignorance, explained this as well as I could.

Now I know that my problem is probably the old client, still looking for someone who knows how to upgrade the client for Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04).

You can build it from source using the instructions found on the wiki. Or you can use backports. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports
