What license is this under? I read it's open source, is it GPL, LGPL, BSD, etc?

So it's the GPL that forces any project to be GPL also?

You can read how it works http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html

thats no forcing!!!
it just makes sure that everywhere the software goes the freedom goes also.

you are still free either to make a project or not ! so nobody is forcing you !

Otherwise you could just rip it and sell it.

modanung

you can do this as well with GPL software..

you are allowed to fork it

and

you are allowed to charge a distribution fee

but the problem is that every customer you sold your product to can sell it too for any price or give it away for free.

but that doesn't mean that you can't take money for using a service you provide based on gpl software. for example taking money from people for playing on a gameserver running a game licensed under gpl software.

I think that with profitable GPL'ed solutions the money is paid for customer support.

or with customized software based on another gpl product which is especially made for the needs of a specific customer.
