Small Task No 4 (Pixelart Challenge) - Shapes of Soul Menhir
Small Task No 4 (Pixelart Challenge) - Shapes of Soul Menhir
I'd like to introduce 4th edition of Small Task Pixelart Challenge.
This time our task is to provide other shapes of Soul Menhir.
Reference image:
New Sould Menhirs should be as much similar to present one. Particle effects will be added in game, so don't bother about that. Keep in mind that Sould Menhirs are standing in different environments:
- Desert
- Wood
- Snow area
- Beach
- Swamp
Some of them may be really old and cracked. Others may be quite new and shiny. Everyone is invited.
Good luck ;)
Regards

A beach doesn't usually have stones laying about to reference.
This design feels boring and too detailed. I'll want there to be a section of stone protruding outwards more instead of this unified turd.Re: Small Task No 4 (Pixelart Challenge) - Shapes of Soul Menhir
Shade the lines, not just the surfaces, add texture to the surfaces and make the lines less perfect and you will have a very interesting rock structure.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

Which part of word "shape" don't you understand?lien wrote:
add Contrast just a idea

Please do not recolor, adjust gamma, brightness and contrast. Draw something new, from scratch.

Soul Menhir are rare; found by miners who sell them for substantial amounts of money to cities or private (wealthy) citizens.
SO WHAT?
They might have been transported from any of the discovery places to wherever they are now, so don't think "its in the desert, it needs to be made of sand", but rather consider just making it look good in its surroundings (regardless of material makeup).
HOWEVER
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menhir
Technically, a "menhir" is a tall stone carved into its shape by men. Most were twice as tall as men, while others were short, but all were skinny and flat on one side; usually for the purpose of rune etching.
Solutions:
We could create stones that are skinny and flat
This is just semantics, and we could change the name (if anyone cares) of the stone.
OR we could just ignore that I brought this up and go on our merry way of calling our glowing rocks "menhir" .

dose it have to be a Menhir? I made what was suppose to be an ore that could be a start (made a long time ago.)

The wikipedia article on menhirs helps.
So I'll suppose that they are all similar material.
EDIT: Scrapped the previous square menhir. Learning from other rocks atm. Sorry for editing this so many times. I do not want to make new posts before EJlol's excellent stone has been seen.

I like it,
but, maybe the brighter pixel on the top side are a little bit aggressive... (or maybe it's just my monitor)
And, IMAO, this stone look too "natural", a soul menhir should be more unique, special. (like bcs one)

Very, very quick sketch. This challenge sounds easy so I may make a few different shapes. School tomorrow, but I'll do some in the afternoon.

Snow area rock. Always thought the rock should be larger still a little unhappy with the shape tho. Anyways there's my 5min attempt. I know this challenge is a little old but it's hard for me to find the time.
