[FND] [REVIEW] Code+Icons for Image buttons
Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
I don't care much for the design of the status icon.
IMO status should be represented as some type of information system (like graphs).
Also, if you do want to go with a different style then that, I still disapprove of the quality of the status icon, it looks boring.
Also, the money icon could use some work too IMO.

Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
If we use the dye system with these, then we'd need to make it very configurable so other themes can do what they want. I think it'd be easier for all to just have the four states explicitly present.
Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
Sure. The dyeing system can replace the black->gray->white color ramp with any other color gradient (by the way: using the whole range from pure black to pure white is best for dyeing because in that case the pure white parts will have exactly the color you define at the end of the dyeing ramp).poison_ivy wrote:And of course, the buttons are already done: can the dyeing system lighten an image, for when it's highlighted, or do you want a lighter version of the icon for that?

Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
Nothing new upon this high priority task for mana 1.0 release?
Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
The person in charge for this might want to try to personally approach an artist to get someone assigned on this.
This message used to be meaningful.
Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
Sorry, did we reach an agreement on what needed to be done next? I hadn't forgotten about this, I just didn't know what to do now...
Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
Hi Ivy!
Thanks for coming up for news.
Step 1.
AFAIK, some graph icon for the level was asked by Kage and me, if possible.
I wanted to know if it was possible to get a magnifying glass as a try for the status icon,
and Kage wondered if it was possible to upgrade the money icon a bit, to look like a bit more like a bunch of gold coins spilled, than perfect piles.
Step 2.
Then, what's left is to colour them keeping in mind that the xcf source file should be as modular as possible (Separate icon border from colors, ...),
keeping in mind that every buttons will have four states:
* normal
* mouse hover
* pushed
* disabled
Some other also spoke about using pastel or "washed" colors, to be less eye-hurting.
Step 3.
Last but not least, once all of this will be prepared, along, we'll have to make tries at using the dyeing system upon the icon to see if we can reduce the different image use.
I must admit I don't really care about Step 3, as long as we've got nice base sprites from steps 1 and 2. Optimizations can come later on.
Best regards.

Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
I'll work on this today, but my mother is limiting my time on the computer to two hours a day at the moment, and I've already had an hour and it's only half past eight in the morning...
So, I'll do the Graph, Spilled Money and Status icons this afternoon.
But will the other states be needed as images? Can't the dyeing system make them lighter, or darker? And the client already moves button text to the lower right on clicking, so they wouldn't need images where the icon was moved slightly.
I'll probably start colouring them tomorrow.

Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
For the dye system to work, you'll need to color them correctly. I think we can do a sprite-like system for specifying the various image states to get the greatest control possible for theme makers out of this.poison_ivy wrote:I'll work on this today, but my mother is limiting my time on the computer to two hours a day at the moment, and I've already had an hour and it's only half past eight in the morning...

Excellent
Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
If you want the client to dye it, then we'll need a dyeable version. The offset can be handled by the XML file.
By sprite-like, I mean instead of directions and actions, we'll have states (normal, hover/selected, active, disabled). We could use this to describe existing stuff too (like checkboxes and radio buttons), making it possible to change image sizes and use the dye system for them.

Re: [REQ] Icons for Image buttons
Hi jaxad,
Could we already upgrade the button class to make it optionally accept icons?
We could already play with the icon give so far, then?
What do you think about it?
Best regards.
