This is a wip. Please edit this all you want. You wont be stepping on anyones toes. Practice makes perfect and if you can make this look better than me we use your version. :) enjoy this challenge ;)

Note to Crush: Is it possible to make this particle rotate around the monster until it dies? Thanks.

Note to irukard: teach me how to texture stuff like this damn you lol.

Looks like your starting to understand color, keep going...

Note I think you should make the golem's body look slightly more human

A good start, but it still looks too much like plastic. That's how you can make it more rough:

We are already using a similar effect for the wisp monsters. But unfortunately the client can't remove the effect immediately when the monster dies. Only when the monster is removed.

Nice concept. It would make an nice underground monster. I think Irukard did a tutorial on rocks. IDK how to shade and texture like him either meway. XD
I'm still pretty much a noob a this stuff, but from what I can tell it just takes time and practice. After working on gear, I think I might like to try some monsters next. XD Makeing the rock golm look a little more humanoid wouldn't be a bad idea. Crush's version has a nice texture to it.

Im not too sure on my last two frames. Len if you can help me ideally about making it more human please? Im having a rough time doing that with this lol. anyway I have textured it.

Note: when making a gif of this monster please paste the particle effect over the first 3 frames of the monster. Than make a gif using those first 3 frames. Anyone who is willing to do this thanks! im using mspaint and it does not support.

heres a gif

Please note: This is just concept art. This is not the actual creature to be used. 30 second drawings.

as far as the animation goes I could maybe do something like this?

Note: As making a walking animation will be much difficult I decided that he floats and that the part that you see now is the bottom half of him. The upper half will be more humanoid.

Note: I can also easily change colors.

does anyone have a good tutorial on animating spinning objects?

Your dithering is too regular. Try to place the pixels more random. It's not bad when you have clusters of pixels - it gives the object additional shape. Just try to have a higher density of dark pixels in the areas facing away from the light source and a higher density of bright pixels in the areas facing the light source.

needs some work on the texturing, as it looks like it's in 256 colors right now

That's what I meant with the dithering. When you place dithering in a regular pattern it looks like you had to do it because your color palette was too small.

Speaking of color palette: When you ever feel that the palette you've chosen is limiting, don't be afraid to add additional shades. Whenever I did this in the past I got the impression that the additional colors improved my work. Just don't use any drawing tools with gradients or unsharp borders which drop hundreds of shades on your color palette. When you do this you will lose the pixel art look completely (unless you know what you are doing).

I use Ms Paint it does not have those tools you speak of. And I do need to use more colors. :)

The gif's colors got messed up when I changed it to a gif mistakes.
I was looking toward a more pearl look to this second one. But I think I like the rocky look better.

Oh and thanks for the help crush. :)

I don't want to step on your toes, but don't you think that you've reached a skill level where you should look into using more professional tools like GIMP?

Sure, it got a lot of features you don't need as a pixel artist, but it also got a lot of very useful features:
  • Select-by-color and color correction dialogs allow to adjust colors easily
  • Layers allow to edit an object on the background it is supposed to be placed on
  • Layers allow to create animations using onion-skinning
  • Full alpha channel support!

or try paint.net, it has the same features as GIMP but its easier to use.

I do use gimp. Right click cut. Right click paste. color select tool. Click white background. Hit delete. Boom transparency added. XD I don't understand layering.
