as many of you people know we have be waiting on the completion of the "player-sprite-1.5" to do the edits on most of the equipment that the new attack frames have added.....this will be 8 frames add to the male and female sheets for each(24) new attack(2-hand-swing,1-hand swing,pole-arm) plus the 6 spell frames and i may add 6 more for a (hit frame)

thats 30-36 "new edited frames" on each equipment (i get this number by mirroring ever frame that could..there may be a need for detailing after the fact do to lighting/shadowing)..
------as far as what is ready and tested --------> pole-arm frames are done imo.
-1-hand swing is done imo.
-spell is done imo.
-2 hand swing i would like to test 1 more time with a demo weapon.
-(hit frame ) not done, and may not be added yet.

first we a list of equipment thats in game and add any other needed equipment-edits..

ill post the list soon ...or if anyone else wants to get the list started feel free to do so...if you feel like doing some of the edits please post here what you would like to edit ...

This tileset will may being used by other fork/server, why not asking them to help?
I can help if you help me too, I mean, doing a big list from every item from every server, and doing that in team, every pixelart will need to do x amount of sprite, etc etc.

i may ask for help form servers...but for now the focus is on what we see every day in game so that the player-1.5 can be used and new weapon made and add to game play....after that we could start the other edits that are not so important but could really added some thing to the game, like the snake set and and things from other severs...so i geuss 2 list are in order
(the "we need" list and the "we want" list)

please use the spritesheets.zip as the player sheet (can be found here--> http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... 3&start=90 ) posted by nmaligec...

I know that you must be really proud of your spriteset. And I really respect you for finally completing this task which already drove a lot of our artist to frustration.

But I still would like to ask you if it is really out of the question to reduce the number of frames a bit. The large number of frames was already a problem in the past and now we are even making it worse. When I may quote one of our newcomer pixel artists ChefChelios:
do you know how much work it is to pixel clothes for tmw?
you have to pixel 69 frames..for male... and 69 frames for female...

= 138 frames
(and the new playerset 1.5 have much more frame if i remember right)

to pixel hats is my hobby... it is not my full time job xD

i tryed to create my own armor and gloves (red boxing gloves xD) before a long time... i failed.. cuz it was fXXXXXXX(word zensored) boring!!!
As you can see the complexity of the spriteset is really a huurdle for artists who want to create items. Every frame in it costs us new equipment contributions which could improve the gameplay.

I understand that you are proud of your creation. When I would have created such a good work it would hurt me too when I would have to scrap something of it. But can't we maybe cut a few frames from the attack animations (new as well as old)? As I already pointed out a few times, less can be more. And do we really need 6 frames for the cast magic animation? Wouldn't it be possible to use just one frame or just use a normal attack animation for casting magic?

For magic, we might drop those frames entirely since it doesn't work with our magic system. As for the rest, we've already gone through the WIP phase, when the dropping of frames should've been discussed. We can revisit, which is your request, but if you are wanting to see a frame reduction, I'd rather see work to make this happen ASAP from those requesting it. Otherwise, the player-set is done, in git and equipment is needed to be fixed for it.

@Crush---->"less can be more." i agree ....and cuting down the number of frame is (imo) is needed for this game to really make it as a classic-game. the player set is the back bone to any game. in the past 3 years i have dug out all my old all my old nes, snes and yes my genisis ...mosty been playing old squaresoft and ENIX form the 90s.....lots and lots of time in SoM and soon hehehe SoE (wooooot) ....also spent time in willow(nes) and zombies ate my neighbors(genisis) ...

the thing that i learned comparing them with tmw-ea is we are missing some needed frames in tmw-ea player set.but at the same time lots of un-needed frames ....in most games the atattks are done with 2 with a mirrored last frame so 3 frames 2 sprite frames...some games like zelda-ltp its just one frame ....

as far as cutting it down and the hard work i did going to waste ....i dont think of it like that...i think of it more as trimming the fat off.. ""less be more"" ..however i dont feel i have the time or the know how to do it fast and right...there may be a xml wizard out there that can do it way faster then me....if its some thing someone would like to take on them self i would be grateful

@Womat"For magic, we might drop those frames entirely since it doesn't work with our magic system" nooooooooooooooooooo, i would save them ....we dont ave to edit for them or use them ..but there still good to have on hand .
""I'd rather see work to make this happen ASAP from those requesting it. Otherwise, the player-set is done""-->i agree, and we try to make this happen and welcome smarter peoples help. Otherwise, the player-set is done
give me a day or 2 to see what i can do

reducing pixel work

First off, after hats, weapons are probably the easiest to pixel. They only require 12 frames for the attack animation (bows need 15). I don't know why people don't do more weapons. Instead of doing 3 hats, make 1 new weapon!!!

Next is a proposal for non-combat/social clothes. I noticed a lot of people sitting in town who like to have distinct styles. Perhaps if combat can be locked when equipped with non-combat gear, artists can make social gear with only 25 frames (stand + sit + walk + death frames), instead of 69 for normal items and 125 for the extended player set. This could diversify the player look in social settings, and might even get the artist to complete the combat frames if people really like it.

My last idea was to designate a special catagory for weapons that have all the frames. The scythe already does and an unreleased staff also has all the standard frames. Perhaps a few more 'prestige' weapons could be added and would be mostly for showing off in town. This obviously means a lot more pixel work, but it might be worth it for ultra rare/powerful weapons that the owner would want to brag about having.

re updating existing items: the a lot of extended player set frames only slightly modify existing ones. Head gear will not need new pixel work (just xml). I think legs and boots might need only 1 or 2 new frames, as the legs and feet are almost always the same as an existing frame. The arms are what has been changed the most. Hand and chest gear are the only items that will need extensive pixel work. I think skipy planed it this way and it is a good thing too!
