[REQ] Thermin Art
Re: [REQ] Thermin Art
@Lien: Well... it seems you have great ideas. I'll make the Thermin map a real labyrinth and this idea is quite nice in fact, a lof of work needed, but nice.

Merlin, did you draw any of that yourself apart from the roof? I'm afraid it doesn't look at all good when you move bits of tilesets around to make something else.
I don't see the reason for drawing the tiles of a roof that will have snow over it, but as far as art goes they are rather gradiented and somewhat pillowshaded.

Re: [REQ] Thermin Art
Most of it seen so far is all temp work. I didn't think I was going to actually try and replace the current outside tileset, just messing with it. The proposed set would make some some rigid mapping. It wouldn't be easy to create any different style of building with the locked roof/wall tileset. I have this idea for a multi-pitch roof that is more along the lines of the eartheren type people the Thermins are now. I don't know if you can see it from the rude one side concept start but I'll post it anyways. IDK when I'll be able to post next so it might be a bit till I get back to this. (don't mind the horrid copy-pasta of I's little brick wall top . Kinda wanted to get an idea of how to pixel the top of the wall on a curve.)
Drawing the roof without the snow is to get the pattern and tiling down without the snow in the way.

Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. Has anybody seen this princess I'm looking for?

Really, Merlin. How often do we need to tell you not to steal work from other projects? How often do we need to explain the dangers of copyright violation to you?

Re: [REQ] Thermin Art
Here are the current tilesets used for Thermin. Any improvements are welcome.
I added the ground on the outdoor tileset because I thought it was both outdoor and indoor tilesets.
So, I need an indoor tileset to be able to make the Thermin Town.

Re: [REQ] Thermin Art
The outdoor tileset is a solid base, but what it lacks is stuff. Little objects you can place on the map as decoration to make it look more lively. It's a steampunk scenario, so I propose machinery. Lots of machinery. And mining equipment. By the way: The Mana client supports animated map tiles since several versions. A very underused feature which could (but doesn't have to) be used here.
As an inspiration here a screenshot from a very similar scenario from Final Fantasy VI.
Further I would suggest to separate the indoor and outdoor tiles by putting them on different tilesets. Otherwise you are just begging mappers to misuse indoor tiles as outdoor tiles and vice versa.

Re: [REQ] Thermin Art
I searched Crozenite Ore on Google and no answer at all... What is it and what mob should drop it?
Re: [REQ] Thermin Art
Obviously it's a fantasy ore, so it's very good you don't find it on Google.Ali-G wrote:I searched Crozenite Ore on Google and no answer at all... What is it and what mob should drop it?
It can be dropped by monsters in the Thermin mines.
Re: [REQ] Thermin Art
The Crozenite ore looks a little flat, and the texture is very smooth - almost like jelly.
Shading on each lump should be different depending on its position in the pile. I made an attempt to correct this, but it was difficult because I couldn't actually tell what shape the lump was supposed to be.
I think it could do with a darker outline, some darker shading (maybe even as dark as the current outline is) and rougher dithering to give it a more stone-like texture.
Lastly, I think the icon should be mostly blue-grey with bands of the bronze-coloured Crozenite, although that's just design and not the quality of the art. It would need to be non-recolourable or have two recolourable channels for that.
