funny thing is i know a little about reeds and making baskets and reed quills(dip-pens) ....
you would start by going to the swamps ...most good to work with reed is in the mucky parts ,so you will get wet...
most of the reed that you will cut will be still "green" or under water.....when you are done cutting and are ready for the next step you would dry your reed (lots of ways to dry,for lots of different reeds and uses).when you want to work with the reed you would then steam or wet it to make it flexible ....also some reed is just thin strips of wood(like a apple-wood-basket)..
IMHO-->salmondine did the reeds perfect...
@Tiana could you update the to do list for this topic

Basket Lining
This image is very blurry. Sharp detail draws the eye. I did a very quick redraw using a 3-colour palette (though I seem to have increased the saturation):
Reeds
Not particularly blurry, but still too many shades, and the anti-aliasing is waaay over the top. Also, there is no shading; one side of the bundle is the same colour as the other. I removed the AA, reduced the palette and added a bit of shading (but it's still not enough; it doesn't quite look round yet):
Chocolate Bunny
There wasn't much I could do for this guy - overused AA, unrestricted palette, incorrect lighting, incorrect perspective: he had it all. But I removed the AA, reduced the palette, and did what I could for the shading:
