I started reading a bit about pixeling and I decided to give it yet again another try. Here is a beetle I've been working on. just the facing down frame. Please tell me what you think.

Re: [WIP]Beetle
I think a beetle has 3 body parts a head. thorax, and a body.
also BBB the wings on the body need to show the shape.
I like the idea of a beetle mob.
so you might define the shape to be a beetle.
also the front leg positions are confusing compared to the 4 rear legs.
Hexapoda have six legs and two antennae.
finally I think brown is a poor choice of color as it would be attacking you. color choice could make this very interesting even scary.
also eyes are how we humans first recognize another life form so show the eyes clearer too.
some beetles have big jaws.
take another stab at it, I know you can do it!
also scarabs are a sort of beetle hint hint =]

Actually, many animals have large false eyes as a defense; their real eyes are often barely visible.salmondine wrote:also eyes are how we humans first recognize another life form so show the eyes clearer too.

Axltrozz drawed an unfinished beetle years ago. Maybe you can use it as inspiration:

Re: [WIP]Beetle
A guy called Redshrike did a beetle long time ago on forums,
Old post here: http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... lit=beetle
I don't know much about Redshrike, but his works seems to be CC-BY 3.0 licensed,
so I take most of his graphics to do a testing spriteset and can play with it.
[+] Spritesheet 33 x 26:
[+] .XML file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12510339/tmw/2011/beetle.xml
* On a quick testing: used targetCursor="small" in monsters.xml, and used spider-like values on mob_db.txt.

Sorry, but we have to insist on GNU GPL to avoid licensing chaos.pateame wrote:CC-BY 3.0 licensed
