Water Collision Desert Tileset

Post by tux9th »

Hi,
I recently looked over the Tonori maps and found out that there are different ways how the water tiles are blocked out.
I really didn't know what to do and which way is the best so I made a few screenshots and ask for your opinion so we can all decide on how to procede from here.

I took screenshots from 003-1 and 021-1. You can check this out in the game. On the Mainserver, Testingserver doesn't matter.

I for myself think that blocking the water out completely is the better way. It doesn't look wierd sitting in the sand while sitting with one cheek in the water seems to be wrong.

I'm waiting for your input :) Thanks.

Hmm, it actually looks nicer and better, apart from the fact that on the side views, he has one leg in the water....
Also he has one leg in the water on the back view, but that shouldn't matter, after all that leg should be raised if you sit in a position like that?
Why don't we just extend that little bit of the tileset so it fits? :D ahahahahhaa
Nice idea tux :P

(You should have set your collision color to something that's not blue before taking those screenshots)

I think it's quite sensible to walk with the waves washing over your feet. It's still quite feasible (though debatably not as sensible) to sit there.

Admittedly, this is not the best with the current tiles (but the tiles *could* be changed in the future without breaking existing maps).

I think also the second way is the better, because on the first you have to "stop" because of "nothing"

Okay.
V0id propsed a rule of thumb: "a tile which is more than half made of water shouldn't be walkable"
This would look like this
Is this good for everyone or do you have another opinion?

btw it's 021-1 despite what I wrote in my first post

I slept over that for one night and made up my mind:

I will go with what o11c, Nami and Zdln said. Less collision, like it has been done for now. I will therefore erase the collision tiles from 003-1 and from all the other maps as well.

V0id's rule applies here: He said less than 50% water is walkable, therefore the tiles I blocked out have to be walkable again because it's 49,6% water (LOL!).
Let's give people the freedom to decide whether they want to sit with one buttcheek in the water or not, most of them won't even sit anyway.
It looks perfect while standing and it's a bit off while sitting. TMW isn't 100% perfect...
