[WIP] Hurnscald Confused Tree

Post by Reid » 19 Aug 2017, 17:54

The confused tree use a feature that change its sprite at every season change.
So according to https://gitlab.com/evol/clientdata/issues/7 here is some of my sprite proposal.
First is obviously summer, second is winter or autumn, not decided yet.

Autumn should be the first one with a yellow/orange version of the leaves

Yeah, the autumn version should be yellow/orange. Also it is quite weird the winter one loses all his branches/twigs...

First of all, no need to create 4 different trees, we could simply use the trunk as a base layer and have an accessory tileset for each season, unless you really want to have different tree trunk color palettes which is not necessary imho.
Also, that work would be easy to duplicate on the other trees, apart from the palm trees ofc.

Here is how I see the different seasons :
- Spring : Flowers/fruits on top of the green leaves.
- Summer : Green leaves.
- Automn : Change the leaves to an yellow/orange shade as WildX and Ejlol already said.
- Winter : No leaves but indeed, show the twigs without forgetting the shadow.

TADADAAA here I come!
Wish I'd have time for it, sadly I don't. I'm Bruce Wayne, I have a castle to clean up.

I really like that concept and the tree graphics.

Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. Has anybody seen this princess I'm looking for?

Love those for summer, winter and autumn! Maybe for spring just the same as summer with a few added flowers.

Those autumn leaves look really cool! :)

Cool Nami, pretty nice! I agree with WildX, add some blossoms to the summer appearance for the spring one (perhaps thin out the leaves a tiny bit), then it should be finished. Perhaps add some yellowish / greenish colors to the autumn tree too? And dont forget the shadow. ;)
Thanks for your work!

Thanks Nami for the initial works.

Hope it can be used. As usual, begging for comments and critics.
Thanks for your attention.

wouldn't it be weird that only this one tree changes while the rest of woodland does not?

Micksha has plans to diversify the trees. Not sure about seasonal changes though. There's also the problem that seasons are not the same all over the world. It would be strange logging in from Australia and seeing winter in the summer and summer in the winter.

Basically, I just tried to finish the art for that topic that came up 7 months ago. Of course it is impossible to make proper seasons for all around the world, and impossible to give the whole game some seasons - especially as we have season-specific areas like Nivalis. Confused Tree could be confused without further information imo, and lose his leaves in the mid of summer while getting red leaves for easter.. or we just ditch the topic and use the original Tree. This decision is to be made by the project leaders. If there is no further comment on the art, I will just put it aside for now.

It's something that we should discuss, but it didn't relate to the art, you're right. I'll split into another topic.

I like the trees. The winter tree maybe could look more natural if it had a shape that is less rounded and identical to the tree's leaf canopy, but it's just a small detail.
