Hehe I bet we would use some mouth and noses in our sprite sets. But maybe someone from our artists will speak.

Regards.

When we implement character portraits (and there are many things that got a much higher priority), then the player should be able to customize his characters portraits as much as possible by combining the face of different parts like face shape, skin tone, eye shape and color, mouth, nose, ears and other accessories (skars, birthmarks, beards, pimples...)

About the images posted: Some people might lynch me now, but as far as i remember we are trying to create a game in the style of old console games here and these games were heavily influenced by manga style. So the portraits of characters should look more manga and less western.

Typical characteristics of the manga style faces are that the nose and mouth are very simplicistic. The main focus lies on the eyes and the hair.

The nose is usually underpropotioned and in many cases (especially in the case of female characters) the nose is only hinted by one or two barely noticeable lines and a bit shading.

The mouth is usually displayed with as few details as possible without losing expression. The lips are very rarely shaded. When there is any shading in the mouth region at all it is usually the trench between lower lip and chin.

In video games it is quite common that mouth and nose are omitted completely.

Indeed. However, there are many manga style, some of which has a lot of shading in the mouth region (for example when the author is trying to portrait scary faces). The nose can be in proportion as well, but it really depends on the style of the author. Shoujo manga style alone has over 20 varieties. However, in the game, we are using a common style with underproportioned noses. Personally, I perfer more detailed style :P

If you ever have time, we would surely find a lot of use for your pixellation skill.

Why stick to silly manga style? Be a little creative, make tmw have it's own style, being influenced by manga is one thing, but emulating it is another...

I think about the only thing that is manga style in TMW is the login wallpaper. Maybe also the unproportially big head and eyes of the player character, but it's a lot more in proportion than is usual in manga. I see no reason to introduce more manga-style things to TMW (would rather see a more interesting wallpaper), and I like these character portraits a lot as they are already.

Then maybe Korcha could make us a new login wallpaper?

Apart from the low cheeks, the black outlines, pencil necks and the lack of dithering I like these a lot.

Yeah, I know. If you want I could also sprite items and icons, but thats about all I can offer.
Rotonen wrote:If you ever have time, we would surely find a lot of use for your pixellation skill.
I can help out now.
Platyna wrote:Then maybe Korcha could make us a new login wallpaper?
I cannot because in order to do so I need a tablet, old one had broken, sorry. I'm only using a mouse to draw these portraits.
But I designed one for you anyway, enjoy:

However I cannot finish it, not yet anyway, so feel free to edit it if you wish to do so.

Don't like black outlines, eh? Well neither do I, but I did fix the pencil neck issue, sort of:

Now onto business; Rotonen, Modanung or whoever is in charge jot down anything necessary you need completed for either facesets or items (highest priority) then post it here or PM (private message) me the to-do list.

^^

Well, coloring full screen images is not my area of expertise, but before manaboy rapes the image even more i'll give it a try:

In case anyone wants to make some further edits, here the GIMP xcf file.
