An attempt at sunglasses

Well I made an attempt at creating sun glasses.
I have to say it's very hard working with such a small space!
I can't seem to get the image transparent.
What program is recommended for creating graphics? I've tried just about everything!

<a><img src="http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q177 ... m101-1.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I know it's not the best out there but I would like some feedback on how I could improve this and make it usable.
(EDIT:I fixed the transparency issue thanks to crush for the how to! I did find a program just for pixel art after a little searching.)
Thank You,

I have gimp. But I have major issues in working with it. No easy way to do things that should be easy. (Erase a background to transparent, Actually move something when selected and I move the box.) Maybe I should just spend more time with it and get to know it a little better before I judge it.

Select transparent background when creating a new image. When you already have an image without transparency you can fix this by clicking on the background layer in the layers dialog and select "add alpha channel". Now you will see a transparent background (visualized by a gray checkboard pattern) when you remove something.
Actually move something when selected and I move the box.
You have to make it a floating selection. The hotkey is, i think, Alt+Ctrl+L per default. I simplified it to just "L" because I need this function quite frequently.

When you have any other problems feel free to ask. The user interface of Gimp seems to be complicated at first but it becomes suprisingly simple when you know how to do things.

gimp and pixel art

I don't plan on doing alot of pixel art. I think I'm better off mapping, but I just had this crazy idea and thought, "Hey how hard can it be to create sunglasses!" It's not like I had to do any major shading or anything and considering the size I think they look alright. I was wondering about the back thou. Does it seem right to just see the ends of the legs? Or should the outer rim also be visible? Thanks for the quick reply crush. I was able to fix them.

Gimp does seem very powerful and confusing at first. I guess if I attempt any more I'm sure I'll have questions!

Thank You,

I saw them on Ytterbium in off topic thread, they look really cool.
Maybe you could also make other versions, like one with pink or yellow tainted glass?

They should be made recolorable instead.
