Hi everybody!
I'm developing a new npc.
It's a chef.
I'm just starting, this is my first work in pixel art and it isn't finished.
I accept suggestions :D

What do you think?

Try to avoid pillow shading

Have a look at this: http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/shading.html

Save it as png. This makes sure you dont lose quality. And never use pure black (RGB: 0,0,0). Its a good start though.

Now I know I posted this before, but it isn't showing up...

Looks good but there are a few things that need to be changed:

1) That hat is wrong. You can use either a French Chef's Hat (http://images.jupiterimages.com/common/ ... 047247.jpg) or the more common Chef's Toque (http://www.clydehygienecompany.co.uk/ac ... Ppctoq.jpg). I personally would recommend the Toque. A more fancy version of the French Hat - http://www.affordablehousinginstitute.o ... _small.jpg.

2) The coat should have buttons along either side of the breast (http://www.coolaprons.com/bigcoat.jpg). The buttons should either be white or black. If you use black buttons, the coat will need black trimming (http://textileinnovations.com/images/Ch ... 20trim.jpg).

3) The pants should either be a houndstooth pattern (checkered in this case due to resolution issues) or black with white stripes (http://www.widerview.com/gg6823.jpg). Solid colors are not common for chef's and is usually reserved for the wait staff.

4) The hair should be completely tucked under the hat. However, this could be overlooked by saying that TMW has different health code requirements... :)

I'm a professional chef so I thought I'd chip in a bit and help you to come up with an authentic look. :)

Again, nice work so far!

I like the idea of NPC have the same basic body as players, and only distinguishable by clothing and name. Makes it more realistic.

I support st3v3 on this ... especially now that we're getting animated npc's

[OT] I wish we would get animated NPCs but so far I haven't seen anyone actually doing any pixel work in that direction.

I would try, but I have enough on my plate as it is and I have no experience in animation

Crush I will stamp out a few with gray scaled hair and clothes based on the player standing and walking sprites. I just have to finish what I'm currently working on but will be the next thing I do. :)

Has anything else been done with this? I was really looking forward to seeing our resident Corporate Chef...

Well, if our original author doesn't want to finish it I will. I can even give him a Commis side kick... :)

The hat looks strange. I would prefer a hat in the style of the first concept with better shading.

I came to the conclusion that the perspective was off, I tried to fix that:

Also I (tried to) follow(ed) Crush suggestion:

I personally like the Toque btw.
