okay. I was shocked when I realized that TMW didnt have shields!
So i have decided to make a whole set of shields. The wooden one being the lowest level, and easiest to obtain.

The lack of item graphics is not the reason for TMW not having shields. When you look into the resource files you will see that there are three shield item icons.

+12 defence is way overpowered, by the way.

I'm willing to start to give in on our pseudo-content a bit:

Even if we do not have the display graphics and playerset animations for items, we still could implement stuff on the server. This in light equipment icons are more than welcome. Just leave the actual implementation (stats, rareness, prices) to the hands of people responsible for the server. Of course you are always free to suggest things.

Just having stuff hangint out there could actually push our pixellators to give more to the playerset development. I'm willing to even have placeholder graphics.

So will the shields be fully visible in later versions of the game, similar to clothing? And will we be using the current player sprite set?

The current SVN client is capable of displaying shields. There just aren't any spritesheets for them...

I'd give my thumbs up for using that one as a reference for our animation. Fluent enough to fool the eye.
