I started this new version of the miner NPC. He's wearing all the stuff that can be found in the mines including miners hat, miner gloves and leather skirt. I made two versions, a clean version and a version with some dirt on skin and clothes.

I like the dirty version better. Definitely an adequate replacement for the current sprite.

Rotate the pickaxe a bit. It looks to unnatural right now.

I tried it out several times but it looks like crap:

The part between his hands is to much __ (to horizontal). So the pickaxe looks a bit like this: \__ (not a straight line). Try lower his right hand 2 pixels (or more?), and then try to draw the part between his hands again, so that it will look like \. (a straight line)

You used the rotate function of your graphic program to turn the pickaxe, didn't you? I can tell by the improper anti aliasing and blurring. Please redo it by hand.

Yes, thats what I did but I've already redone some parts by hand. Anyway, I redo it again till it looks better.

Rotating by software and then fixing by hand is not a bad option on the long run. For this you should probably scale up the pixel art first for better results and easier repairability and then scale it back down before repairing it by hand.

When in the process of learning pixel art, you can never have enough practice, so this bit does not go for each and every one of our pixel artists.

That's a quite bad advice, in my experience.

When you rotate something the whole texture is replaced by a blurred mess. So you have to redraw it completely.

The lines are blurred too with some pseudo anti-aliasing you have to clean up by hand. This cleanup process takes about the same time it would have taken to draw the lines yourself in the first place.

Just drawing the object in the correct angle in the first place is faster. When you have problems with the perspective I would recommend prototying in inkscape.

Blah, I do come from a world of vector art originally.

You're right, does not work with pixel art at all. The form of the pixel mesh does not survive the translation. (I actually had to go back to the basic math of geometrical translation to realize that one.)

I've redone the miner npc i started. I used the arms of the constructin worker npc from kr0n05931 so that the graphics fit together. Here it is:
