[DIS] Transparent things far above the ground

Post by octalot »

Opening a discussion about how to handle things that go far above the ground.
Such as a tree, or ship's mast (which would need sails unless there was some graphical trickery).

Pretend that second one is a mast, not a misused tree graphic  .

I actually prefer something like this. Pretend that it is a mast that is cut off half way, and not a misused tree graphic with some horrible editing ;).

The problem with this idea is that it looks like "a mast that is cut of half way", not a mast which is so high that I can't be completely seen.

Some sort of fog could be one possibility... :?
You can find me lurking in the Graphics Development forum...
Haha, you thought it was a link, didn't you! :–)

That's true, but I also think that when more objects (tall trees, very high buildings?) are like that, players wouldn't see it like a cut of halfway mast but like a real mast. ofcourse it also will depend on where you cut things. If you cut the tree at the blue line it is more obvious than if you would have cutted it at the red line.

I think we should just set a standard about how high the "camera" is and pixellate according to it.
This message used to be meaningful.

HeHe... Just to make things easy on me, I say we use Saphy's big tree as the standard (but would this also affect buildings?)
