The idle animation could weave both ways in a figure of eight.

Also you cannot really recycle your emerging animation for going in due to the eject material from ground.

I can't quite see what you mean by that.

I think he means this:

Image

Coming out of the ground is different than going into the ground

The animation needs definetely more frames and the shape of the creature could be more organic I think.

Keep in mind that it creates a dust devil while going down and up, rearranging the soil and therefore hiding the hole. We wouldn't want holes that just go "pop" and disappear when it moves around, do we? The desert would be littered with holes.

That just moves my point into being "improve the dust devil".

Seems more like a job for the particle engine, actually.

How would you recommend I improve it?

In my opinion the flat base of it doesn't at all look like it's coming out of the ground.

since kr0n05931 has "resigned." in his signature I figured I'd take this nice creature and try to finish it.
- painted left/right/up idle/attack animations
- painted over the emerge from ground animation
- added alpha channel to dust when sinking/emerging from ground
- replaced some long diagonal pixel lines

So if someone with git access approves of it, I think it can go in. I think the idle animations can be used for movement as well. (It's only 2 frames per direction though...)
I should maybe also say that I tried to animated a swaying idle movement like Rotonen suggested but I couldn't get it smooth.. I guess such a eight-figure movement needs maybe 6-8 frames per direction to be smooth.. maybe someone wants to do that?

so.. what do you think?
