[WIP]Ore Deposits

Post by Red Lord »

Here I have a sprite that applies to the Mining Concept I came up with some time ago. No replies to it but here it is for viewing.

http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5025

And here is the Ore Deposit(Red is recolorable for different type of ores)

And yes, I expect a ton to do before it is done.

How about we stay away from ideas that hail from RuneScape? Let's try to make the ore deposits look different.

Doesn't look that similar IMO. What kind of design would you suggest, kr0n05931?

Isn't ore found somewhat like that though? They can't copyright something that is already in nature.

Non-artist’s thought running amok in the graphics’ forums:

To be honest, all the above images look more like some magmaish substance escaping the rocks. My mind did not connect it with iron at first look, though that can be learned with time. The iron ore I have seen have been much more “hidden”/“homogenous” than that, but I guess it depends on the relative amount, composition and structure of the iron and other components...

In other MMORPGs I’ve played, iron ore is usually depicted as a simple gray (lump of) rock. But whatever looks believingly cool would be good. :)

When I think of an ore deposit, I would expect it to be either in the walls or on the ground. Or just a rock sitting on the ground like Kess said.

Are animated tiles implemented yet? I'm sure they were going to be for TMWServ.
If so I suggest a bit of rock that looks like any other except for subtle bits of grey that occasionally twinkle. This would mean players would have to spot iron ore before they can mine it. Plus it would look cool.

Animated tiles have nothing to do with the server. They're being worked on.

Having the ore sparkle would be good. Its cliché, but that shouldn't stop us.

AFAIK there hasn't been animated tilesets yet. BUT what you want can already be done with the particle system.

Animated map tiles won't be required for this.

We will implement ore deposites either as immobile and non-attacking "monsters" (like the herbs) or as NPCs. Both can be animated and both can have particle effects attached to them.

The reason it looks like magma is because I put a recolorable red in there so we can have more than just iron ore.
