[RC] Wisp monster

Post by Crush »

I noticed a wisp monster in Aethyra which is basically a glowing ball floating in the air. A simple yet effective idea to do a monster. But their execution of it was in fact a bit too simple for my taste. So I said to myself: I can do better than that. So here is the wisp I created:
  • Bops up and down
  • Can change its color while doing so
  • Has an attack animation (bashes the enemy with an offset move)
  • Has a particle effect
  • Is spelled correctly

This will probably need to wait for the next open test period.

Good work as always, Crush.

Awesome Mr. Crush! I've been wanting to see this on TMW ever since I saw it on Aethyra (but not as over-used as they had it, which [and I'm not flaming them] made me not give them a serious try. Then again, if it's using the particle engine, it'll likely not be over-used.)
It's not only a monster sprite, it also adds to the magical ambiance!

Anyway, the Wisp need stats and drops. But it's also the wrong place to talk about.

That's why I split the stat discussion to the content development forum.

The monster looks as if it is made of plasma, or ionized gas. Perhaps it could attack with a fire or flaming particle effect?
Lazy bum.

I made a quick sketch of my idea of a wisp.

Yeah, that's definitely better variation than recoloring slimes.

Here is something I have so far. Making it a gif animation is impossible because it is completely transparent. It looks quite bad on light background :|

I teased Crush about this when I found out about his version, so most of what I felt needed to be said about it has been expressed already to him.

I like what Crush and Haay have done with the idea, taking it from what I came up with, simplifying, and modifying it to be reasonably different from the original, and hope that your players enjoy it as much as I do.
